Dark theme for Chrome, finally.

keywords:

This may come in handy:

Finally, thanks to growing recognition of dark theme culture and the wide-spread need of it, it is now possible to use dark-themed Google Chrome (desktop) . So far it could be done only partially, through in-built theming mechanism, which was, however, noticeably confined: the address bar was still white, as well as all the menus. For the address bar there was a hack which worked for a while (chrome://flags/#top-chrome-md set to "Normal") - unfortunately with one of the newest update it became useless (thanks Google).

A good news is that there is a much better dark theme out there - which, by now, may be used only in the Chrome beta ver. - so-called "Canary" . If You use Chrome already and feel a great need for a well-made dark mode, You can install Chrome Canary, keeping in mind that it can be unstable here and there, as it is "beta". More importantly, it seems highly probable that it will be eventually introduced in official, stable version of Chrome.

Google Chrome finally with a well-made dark theme :) !

New dark theme for Chrome is much better, because 1) the address bar is dark again - and 2) all the menus are dark also. What lacks are settings and extensions pages - which are still glaring white. Fingers crossed that they also will be darkened.

Once You've installed Chrome Canary, there is one little thing You need to do in order to activate a native dark theme:

    1. Right-click the app shortcut on the desktop and select the Properties option.
    2. In the "Target" field, append the following text at the end of the path:

      --force-dark-mode

(as a result it should look like similar to this line:

      "C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome SxS\Application\chrome.exe" --force-dark-mode)
    3. Confirm by "Apply" and "OK" buttons.
